Will Your Future Ford Contain Bamboo?

Ocala residents may be familiar with the use of bamboo in landscaping. It grows quickly into dense stands that are excellent natural fences, thriving in tropical climates. Some species are so fast-growing they have become obnoxious invasives.

Ford hopes to use that fast-growing quality of bamboo to turn it into a renewable, eco-friendly material in manufacturing new cars. Ford builds a lot of vehicles, so finding a natural resource that grows fast enough to keep up with demand is key.

When can you expect to see bamboo in new vehicles? Not yet. First it must undergo test after test, to make certain whatever application it is used for meets Ford's standards for durability and quality. It took years before soy-based foam became standard on North American models.

Visit Ford of Ocala Inc. to learn more about Ford's sustainability programs, and take a test drive in an environmentally friendly new vehicle, including one of our many hybrid and plug-in hybrid options.
